Icelandic protests on the rise

Everything is going crazy in Iceland… for the last two days the small “park”, Austurvöllur, in front of the Icelandic Parliament has been the site for Iceland’s largest protests yet. People have been protesting about our failed government’s response or lack there of to the collapse of Icelandic financial system and it’s failing economy following that. The Parliament was closed down today because of the protesting and the talk on the grapevine is that the current government may be disbanded by the end of the week.

There have been a number of clashes between protestors and the police where pepper spray and as of tonight tear gas (which has not been used against the public in Iceland since 1949) have been utilized to quell those protesters that have been deemed to be acting out of line….

If someone had told me a year ago that something like this would happen in Iceland, I would have had him committed to a psychiatric ward.
